de cabeça e focinho achatados. Ocorre nos rios e grandes
corixos do Pantanal, chegando a alcançar 50 cm de comprimento.
Geralmente é mais pescado próximo às margens com bastante
vegetação aquática. Reproduz-se no leito dos rios, na época
das enchentes, de fevereiro a abril/maio. Alimenta-se
principalmente de outros peixes. Sua carne é muito apreciada
pelos pantaneiros.

A
catfish with flattened head and snout. It occurs in the rivers
and large "corixos" of the Pantanal, growing to a
length of 50 cm. It is generally found nearthe river margins
with abundant aquatic vegetation. It reproduces in the river
beds in the flooding season, from February to April/May. It
feeds mainly on other fishes. Its meat is much appreciated by
the traditional population ofthe Pantanal.
